Lisbon Maru Memorial Association (LiMMA)

Please help us to facilitate bringing the history of the Lisbon Maru to current and future generations

What is LiMMA?

LiMMA has been set up with the following aims:

  • To preserve for posterity the history of events leading up to and following the sinking of the Lisbon Maru in October 1942 and to facilitate bringing this history to present and future generations of families of the prisoners of war involved in the incident.
  • To encourage friendships between the families of men involved in the tragedy and to create an extended network of this Lisbon Maru "family" in the UK and the wider world.
  • To arrange an annual gathering of remembrance at the Lisbon Maru Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum.
  • To facilitate the availability of this historical atrocity to military historians and researchers worldwide and to promote details to historical interest groups, educational facilities and the general public at large.

Joining LiMMA

If you wish to stay in contact with LiMMA, please visit our Membership page and complete our online form. Your completed form will allow us to retain your details on our database for any future correspondence, about the Lisbon Maru and LiMMA, including our newsletter. It is planned that membership of the association will be free.

We are also creating a central resource where all the men's stories and histories can be preserved for future generations. We will combine all the information submitted to produce a page for each man on our Digital Memorial to the Men on this website. These pages are already providing a starting point for anyone researching their relatives.

If you join LiMMA and have information about your relative, which you are willing to share, please visit our Sharing your History page and complete our online form.
