Personal history before the war

George, as he was known, was the son of Henry George and Mary Copping of Blackwood, Monmouthshire. George was the eldest of 7 children. Ellen, Doris (my mother), Violet, Dorothy, Joyce and Leonard. Leonard was conscripted as a Bevin Boy, to work in the coal mines of Britain between 1943 and 1948.

Wartime experience

George was lost in the sinking of the Lisbon Maru.
