Personal history before the war

My uncle, Hans Calvert was my mother’s brother and lived in Comber, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.

Wartime experience

Hans had served since 1940. He was one of 21 Ulstermen on board the Lisbon Maru and did not survive the sinking.

Personal history post-war

Hans is commemorated on the war memorial in Plymouth, the war memorial in Comber, Co. Down, Northern Ireland and also on the family grave in Comber Cemetery.
