Avery White was born in 1918.
Avery was in the Middlesex Regiment and based in Hong Kong. He was taken prisoner at the Fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day 1941 and in September 1942 he was sent to Japan on the Lisbon Maru. He survived the sinking and spent the rest of the war as a POW in Japan.
Avery migrated with his wife and daughter to Australia. Avery's best mate, Reg Cotton, who was in the Middlesex and on the Lisbon Maru, also migrated to Australia. He lived most of his life in Sydney and moved to the far north in later life. He was a big part of my childhood.
